Boy Scout Ranks over the years.... I have finally put together my collection of the BSA's rank badges. They are divided by the era of our program that they have been used. Rank These badges were used between 1936 and 1971 These badges were used between 1972 and 1989 These are the current badges used after 1989 Scout Did not exist Tenderfoot Second Class First Class Star Life Two notes: first, while many of those rank badges have been presented after the time periods stated, the time periods indicated above are the periods in which the BSA says through their official documents are the periods of usage of those insignia. Many Scouts for instance, received the full color versions of the rank insignia as currently as 1994 or 95 due to the fact that local Councils sold off the fully-colored insignia before they ordered or stocked the tan-backgrounded insignia; likewise, many Eagle Scouts may have received one of the older Eagle Scout cloth badges because that is what local Councils had in stock and rather than to throw away otherwise good badges, they simply exhausted their supplies before ordering or stocking the newer versions. Finally, there are several versions of the Eagle Scout Badge which has been used between 1964 and the present; thanks to several Scouters, many of those badges are available on a separate Eagle Scout page! While the badges are the "visible proof", the skills behind earning the various Boy Scout ranks are the most important part of the advancement process. Insignia mainpage Back to The Tree
