Where to Place Merit Badges

Matt wrote and asked:

Where do you put the merit badges that the scouts get if they don't have a sash?

If you have less than seven, Matt, you wear them on your right sleeve of your uniform shirt.

They are worn four inches from the end of the long sleeved shirt in rows of two; or one half inch from the end of the shirt sleeved shirt in a circular pattern surrounding the shirt (it's hard to get six merit badges in a row on the short sleeved shirt; the point is that they go on the right sleeve).

Merit Badges are worn close to the end of the right arm

When you've earned the seventh merit badge, Matt, you should take ALL of the merit badges you've earned and move them to a merit badge sash. You can't wear six on your shirt and then the rest of them on the sash.

This same information should be found in your Scout Handbook, as well as within the pages of the BSA's Insignia Guide.

Thanks for asking!!
